Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I check for updates?
We recommend checking for updates monthly, or whenever you hear about a new feature you want to use. The system doesn't check automatically - you control when to look for updates.
Will I lose my data when I update?
No. Your data is stored separately in the MySQL database and is not affected by application updates. However, we always recommend backing up your database before major updates.
What if the update fails or causes problems?
If you experience issues after updating, you can reinstall the previous version from your backup installer. Contact support if you need assistance rolling back to a previous version.
Do I need administrator rights to install updates?
Yes, on Windows you'll need administrator privileges to run the installer. The installer will prompt for elevation when you click "Install Now."
Can I skip a version?
Yes, you can skip versions. The update system always shows you the latest available version, regardless of what version you're currently running.
What happens if I'm offline?
The update check requires an internet connection. If you're offline, you'll see an error message. You can check again when you're back online.
Why do I see "Registration required" message?
The update feature is only available for registered installations. This ensures only authorized users can download updates and helps us maintain accurate deployment records.
How large are the update downloads?
Update sizes vary depending on what changed. Typical updates range from 20-65 MB. The exact size is shown in the update dialog before you download.
Troubleshooting Update Issues
"Failed to check for updates"
Possible Causes:
- No internet connection
- Firewall blocking HTTPS connections
- Update server temporarily unavailable
Solution: Check your internet connection and firewall settings. Try again in a few minutes.
"Download failed" or "Checksum verification failed"
Possible Causes:
- Internet connection interrupted during download
- Downloaded file corrupted
- Insufficient disk space
Solution: Clear your system's temporary directory and try downloading again. Ensure you have at least 100 MB of free disk space.
Download appears frozen at "Preparing download..."
Explanation: This is normal behavior! The download is synchronous and runs in the background. For a 65MB file, it may take 2-5 minutes depending on your internet speed. The progress indicator doesn't update during download, but the file is actively downloading.
Solution: Be patient and wait for the download to complete. Do not close the application. You'll see a completion message when done.
Installer won't launch
Possible Causes:
- Antivirus blocking the installer
- User account doesn't have admin rights
- File association issues
Solution: Temporarily disable antivirus, right-click the installer and choose "Run as Administrator," or contact your IT department for assistance.
Application won't start after update
Solution: Try restarting your computer. If the issue persists, reinstall the previous version from backup and contact support.
